MusicTech 'Innovation' Award for SSL X-Patch
16th April '10

“The X-Patch is an interesting twist on the patchbay idea.  For those with small studio setups wanting to incorporate just a few bits of choice outboard, this could be the perfect solution…genuinely ground breaking 8/10”.

SSL’s newest project studio innovation comes in the form of the SSL X-Patch.  MusicTech magazine have the first review where they award the unit the magazine’s ‘Innovation’ Award.

X-Patch is designed to deliver the flexibility of plug-in style routing to boutique analogue processing. Developed from technology at the heart of SSL’s acclaimed Matrix console, X-Patch provides a 16x16 SuperAnalogue™ routing matrix that can be Ethernet controlled remotely from a standard computer.

“For small studios and simple patching setups the X-Patch is great.  You can switch from one chain to the next with only a couple of clicks”.

“The X-Patch provides a new answer to an old question regarding routing in the studio, and as such has no direct competitors”.

“…we do like the X-Patch quite a lot…for project studio owners who have a reasonable but not huge amount of gear, the X-Patch will prove a brilliant time-saver.  Where it really exited us, though, was as an effect switcher for guitar pedals.  You can plug a guitar into the front panel, route it through whichever pedals you want, in whichever order, and then back out to an amp.  The same thing would also work with modular synth modules, enabling you to create some incredible configurations, combining pedals and studio outboards in a single effect”

To read the full review pick up the May Issue of MusicTech Magazine (Issue 86) on sale now. The SSL X-Patch is available now at £803.85 RRP.
