The latest edition to Randall’s Kirk Hammett signature series, the Randall KH-75, gets a great review in this month’s Play Music Pickup Magazine.

Kirk made it very clear from the start of his relationship with Randall that he wanted to develop a full line of amplifiers that would provide fans his signature tone at any price point. Built using the same tone circuit as Kirk’s MTS head, the new KH-75 has dual Gain stages for added versatility and has enough power to cut through any mix.

“an extra rotary ‘Contour’ control works a little bit like a parametric EQ, sweeping the mids and adding extra shape by boosting or cutting the mid frequencies.  Its role seems to be a kind of instant ‘thrash’ knob that helps to nail those powerful ‘scooped’ tones that Kirk Hammett practically invented when he set new standards for HM guitar tones back in the 80s”.

“The KH-75’s aggressive tone seems to validate Kirk Hammet’s involvement; this is one very mean sounding amp!  Hammett’s take-no-prisoners approach regarding tone lends his signature combo an appropriately distinctive edge.  Its sheer ferocity feels almost solely geared towards destroying anything in its path but – with a few careful adjustments here and there – the KH-75 also has the potential to be a reasonably versatile combo in its own right”.
